Mike & BEAR's Friends & Extended Family

Friends Page Header

Alonso of Aragon was wont to say in commendation of age, that age appears to be best in four things,--old wood best to burn, old wine to drink, old friends to trust, and old authors to read. -Sir Francis Bacon

Anime may be terrible for your grades, but it also makes for some great friends. Unfortunately, my older friends never got into computers and thus never got homepages, but my newer ones are equally near and dear to me and you should go pay them a visit.

Jennifer Au (AKA Thea, Kaori, Pillow): Jen is one of my nearest and dearest friends who is like a sister to me. Her practical and sensible traits keep my irresponsible traits in check. I'm following her wherever she moves. Once to SoCal and once to NorCal. Now, even though she's married, I know I have someone who will always be there for me.

Mark Chadwick (AKA Emerson): Eternally surly and complaining, Mark is usually one of the first to help out in a crisis and one of the last to leave if you need help. Always a good person to have watching your back.

Prichaya (prounounced "Pricheeya") Choontanom (AKA Jeab): Prichaya is sweet and patient and can deal with my antics. (I think she's too soft spoken to be too vocal in her complaints about me.) She's now getting ready for her big wedding day.

Darold Higa (AKA Godai & Seravi, Nap Man): I've known Darold for quite a few years from now. In many ways, he's one of the people most similar to the way I was a few years ago. He's one of the few International Relations people in anime, he cares deeply about his friends and he was one of the pioneers of the new generation of Cal-Animages in the Los Angeles area. Of course, the big difference between the two of us is that he's far more risk adverse than me and I'm much faster about completing my degrees.

Kent Keltner (AKA Prisoner): Always a family friend, Kent has been around since the early days when Teresa and I were going out. Although not yet experienced in all aspects of life, he's always there to help when he can.

Trulee Ming Lee (AKA Lunachik & CAA Dominatrix): Trulee is one of the most special women in my life. I can share thoughts on business, politics, social issues or just plain gossip with her. Years ago, had she been about half a decade older, single, and had poor taste in men, I would have chased her down and begged her to marry me. Instead, I'm quite content to have a dear friend who is always there for me.

Gisela Lin (AKA Gitz): Stangely enough, she's one of my oldest friends. Our parents knew each other and I think we even shared cribs for some period of time. We've been in and out of touch for a long time and finally found each other after a 20 year separation. Yet another example of the Internet having some use. Gitz and I share a lot of the same parental issues and also share a love of good food and movies. Fortunately for her, she's at least going to get her parents off her back about getting married.

Scanner and Carolyn Luce (AKA Scanner & Clee): Our former hosts on the East Coast who have finally become our neighbors on the West Coast.

Lionel Lum (AKA Kyousuke ): The strangest member of the group. He's a good listener and his parents never taught him to be shy. He already owns a house, so single women who read this should look him up. God knows that he could use some settling down.

Margaret Lum (AKA Lumchan): Kind of like the little sister who is always getting into trouble. You love her dearly, but she keeps driving you crazy! At some point when I wasn't looking she suddenly became a woman.

Charles McCarter (AKA DarkPhx & Captain Synopsis): The world's greatest listener who has seen many a friend through countless hardships. He has since migrated from Arizona to California to save money on his long distance phone bills.

Richard Paw (AKA Nightwing): Rich is both self-disciplined and understands people well. He has now turned that corner in his life were settling down is in his very near future.

Albert Wong (AKA Feddie ): He's Feddie. What more is there to say?

Rannie Kyu Yoo (AKA CatsMeow ): She's syrupy sweet on the outside, evil incarnate on the inside and deep down inside is a genuine core of goodness. You just have to look REAL hard. She always means the best tho... She was there when when I really needed her. Can you ask any more of a friend? If you want to see her alter ego, here she is. Equal attention span and equally distracted by shiny objects.
(Here is an image of her most embarassing moment.)

John Yung (AKA Pomru): Always there and always happy. He can cheer anyone up with his laughter or one of his drawings. Pomru is a former East Coast friend who finally got off his butt to finish his thesis and become a West Coast neighbor.
