MTS: the Michigan Terminal System
MTS, born at the University of
Michigan at Ann Arbor, was the operating system of the mainframe
at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute,
where I spent many of my formative years. At the height of its
popularity, it was installed on more than a dozen computers worldwide!
Experience with it was obviously a truly marketable skill. RPI
finally discontinued its use in the summer of 1995. I had hoped to
link to substantial MTS information at RPI or U Mich, but, from my
perusal of their web pages, they don't seem to own up to it
anymore.
As the "MTS at RPI" terminal login screens were changed to read one
April Fool's Day, years ago:
